Leader: John Moser

Whether you currently write or have nursed the desire to write for years, our group will encourage you to write. Brief teachings on writing, editing, how go get published and other relevant topics are discussed. We will support each other's projects by sharing limited pages of draft works in progress. Our goal is to write. Our long term goal is to disciple and influence the secular world through letter writing, online content, letters to the editor, book reviews and music, articles, poetry, picture books, book-length fiction or non-fiction projects, or memoir.

Presently we are meeting remote. We hope to resume in-person after March 2021. We are open to interested writers!

Member Responsibilities: On rotation, we each read each other's submissions to provide a constructive, but encouraging critique.

Serious adult and teen writers are welcome.

Meetings are alternate Thursdays at 7pm-9pm. We promise to start and end on time. Since we meet all year long, please contact to learn when we meet next!

The Gospel of Matthew is a divinely inspired work of genius. It's distinctive treatment of Jesus' life and ministry emblazes a unique signature among the symphony of New Testament literatures. This bible study will engage in a close reading of Matthew's gospel and it's theological distinctives in a socio-historical immersive way: exploring how Jesus' hearers and witnesses would have experienced His Person as Matthew reports. Our central focus will be on the relationship between Jesus' words and works and the significance of agap? love in relation to them. Matthew presents a quite dramatic correlation between Jesus' proclamation and teaching of the Kingdom and his surprising demonstrations of the Kingdom's power: healing, deliverance, miracles, fulfilled prophecy, spiritual warfare, provision, etc. Jesus himself is the Event of the Kingdom, and Matthew consistently stresses that encountering Jesus as Messiah always elicits a response: growing faith or resistant rejection. With Matthew, one focus will be how we, as a church and as individual believers, are called to a growing faith: unifying the word, spiritual gifts, ethics, vocational excellence, and growing character in the courageous and creative love Jesus himself is. So this bible study is designed for those interested in (1) a deep-dive theological, historical, and literary study of foundational biblical literatures, and (2) eager to apply and live out insights mined in this study in the personal and collective tasks of our own time, contexts, and personal lives.
