Our History
In
the early 1970s, the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania experienced a
move of the Holy Spirit, bringing renewal and refreshment to many
people from many denominations. Home fellowships began emerging
as a result. By the late 1970s, several individuals felt the need
to provide a more formalized church structure, and New Covenant
Christian Community Church (NC4) evolved and was formed in April
of 1980.
To accommodate growth, we moved from
homes into facilities rented for Sunday services. First was the former
Kurtz Training Center in the summer of 1980, and in 1983 to what was
then the Bethlehem YWCA at New & Market Streets. From December
1991 to August 1998, NC4 leased a building on Linden Street. And in
1997, we did something we’d never done before — we bought
and renovated a large building. It’s been our current (though
we suspect not our final) home since August of 1998, located at 21
East Broad Street.
We’ve not only grown our own local church family over the years — we
highly value the outside relationships we’ve developed. Most
important is our relationship with Grace Network (http://cnva.org/grace_network.htm)
based out of Harrisonburg, VA. As a member of GN, we have accountability
outside our local church, we share resources and participate in Network
conferences for training, equipping and development.
Out of Grace Network, we have strong ties with two international
network organizations, made up of churches that are of like faith
and practice. These network relationships serve the purpose of sharing
gifts and resources on a global basis. These networks are:
Ground Level Network, (http://www.groundlevel.org.uk/churches.htm)
based in the UK.
Harvest Network, (http://www.hatfield.co.za/)
based in Pretoria, South Africa.
